Interview with Comic Artist Isabel Greenberg

This week, comic artist Isabel Greenberg came out to Scotney Castle. Isabel is illustrating story 5, The Hunter. This story is set in the Edwardian era and there are several photos and documents from this time in the castle archives, many of the scenes take place in the Scotney new manor house and so Isabel was able to walk in the footsteps of the characters in the script.

Interview with Karrie Fransman

This week project mentor Karrie Fransman came out to Scotney Castle. She gave some excellent development notes on the comic scripts, and I am now working on final drafts.

It is important for writers to work collaboratively with artists, and allow them freedom with their creativity so as not to establish a heirarchy as this is unhelpful to the creative process.

I thought I would give you this brief video interview with Karrie and I talking about the world of creative writing and comic writing.

Interview with Comic Artist Will Exley

This week, comic artist Will Exley came out to Scotney Castle. Will is illustrating story 3, The Smuggler. This story is set in the Georgian era and there are some inspiring local legends about smuggling at Scotney Castle from this time, as well as unusual objects in the castle collection. Many scenes in the script take place in the woodland that surrounds the old castle ruin and so Will was able to spend time walking the woodland trails, viewing the area in the mindset of a Georgian smuggler.

Week 12: Interview with Becky Palmer – Story 4, The Widow

This week, comic artist Becky Palmer came out to Scotney Castle. Becky is illustrating story 4, The Widow. This story is set in the Victorian era and there are many unusual objects, diaries and letters at Scotney Castle from this time. Many scenes in the script take place at the old castle ruin and in the New Manor House, so Becky was able to spend time walking in the footsteps of the characters, viewing scenes from the script.

Interview with Isaac Lenkiewicz – Story 1, The Labourer

This week, comic artist Isaac Lenkiewicz came out to Scotney Castle. Isaac is illustrating story 1, The Labourer. This story is set in the Medieval era when the castle was first built, and explores how the peasant labourers who built the castle could have been involved in the Peasants’ Revolt 0f 1381. Interview with Briony May Smith – Story 2, The Priest

This week, comic artist Briony May Smith came out to Scotney Castle. Briony is illustrating story 2, The Priest. This story is set in the Elizabethan era when the family hid a priest at Scotney Castle and suffered religious persecution during a time of great fear and suspicion.
