Featured Work from A Castle In England

A collaboration between writer Jamie Rhodes and the National Trust, this unique graphic novel plunges us into the rich and often dark history of Scotney Castle in Kent.Recreating the castle’s past from the Medieval to the Edwardian ages, five rising stars from the UK comics scene (Isaac Lenkiewicz, Briony May Smith, William Exley, Becky Palmer and Isabel Greenberg) have illustrated five short stories that mix fiction with fact, creating a visually striking graphic collection that is steeped in historical context.

Having recently transitioned into writing for comics from writing for screen and prose, Jamie Rhodes will give an insight into the key things writers should know about the writing side of creating comics. Jamie will share with you the devices and techniques at a writer’s disposal and how the medium compares to other writing crafts.

About Jamie Rhodes
Jamie is a writer and Co-Chair of the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain’s London & SE region. He has worked with Arts Council England, National Trust, Koneen Säätio, EM Media, IdeasTap, Arvon Foundation, Spread the Word, and the British Library. Find out more about him and his work here: https://thisisjamierhodes.com/

After the talk, there will be a writers-artists speed dating event! You may have a great story for a comic and would love to team up with a talented artist, or perhaps you are an artist looking to partner with a writer who can bring greater storytelling insight into your work. Writers and artists are notoriously solitary creatures, don’t miss this opportunity to meet a potential collaborator!

Exhibition / Illustration

These are the alternative covers for the upcoming Castle In England Project. They have been created by Mr Four Fingers, a creative duo from South Africa, and will be part of the two exhibitions associated with the art project. The alternative covers will be on display at the exhibitions at Scotney Castle in April 2017 and also at the Clerkenwell Gallery, London, in July 2017

Five stories are being written by Jamie Rhodes who is collaborating with five graphic artists to create a graphic novel inspired by the events at Scotney Castle.

You can find more information on the artists here and more info on the project here.
